The National Motorway Company has renewed 400 km of horizontal road markings in 2024

Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, a.s. (the National Motorway Company, hereinafter referred to as “NDS”) has continually enhanced safety features on motorways and expressways in Slovakia in 2024. Overall, the staff workers of NDS have renewed 400 kilometers of horizontal road markings, updated traffic signs on several road sections and renewed or added almost 16,000 reflective road markers. NDS has launched a new initiative aimed at safety education of drivers, including a gradual installation of information boards and stickers depicting the rescue lane applied on maintenance vehicles operated by NDS.

“Minutes count in rescue operations. Therefore, we consider it vital to use all our means and to appeal to drivers to drive in a considerate manner when creating a rescue lane and not to obstruct rescue forces performing their tasks,” said Rastislav Droppa, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and Operations Section Director of NDS.

The new road markings applied on the D1 motorway between the intersection Poprad - East and Spišský Štvrtok will also contribute to enhancing safety on the D1 by restricting the traffic in the given section in case of adverse weather conditions.

In 2024, NDS provided for the renovation of 94 damaged shock absorbers that can reduce the risk of death or serious injury in case of a traffic accident. NDS has also started to gradually replace the originally installed steel crash barriers with new types of barriers with an improved level of restraint.

At the same time, NDS has renewed or installed almost 16,000 reflective road studs, which reflect the light from vehicle headlights, thus helping to improve orientation at dusk or at night.

“I would like to thank the hundreds of NDS staff employees who work tirelessly, seven days a week, summer and winter, day and night to ensure that hundreds of thousands of drivers across the country get home safely, whether they are working directly in the field or developing safety solutions aimed at preventing accidents,” concluded Mr. Droppa.
