“NDS checks the passability of more than 1,000 kilometres of the most important road infrastructure in Slovakia daily. In the event of an incident, our colleagues from the NDS Motorway Patrol head out into the field,” said Rastislav Droppa, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and Operations Section Director at NDS.
Vehicles pulled over on the motorway represent the most common obstacle. In the first six months of 2025, 6,529 such vehicles were obstructing the Slovak motorways. In the event of a broken-down vehicle, Motorway Patrol crews provide safety cover, use light signals to indicate the obstruction, and assist drivers in dealing with the situation. Most of these cases were handled by patrollers based in Bratislava and Trnava. This motorway section has the highest traffic volume, and the traffic is organised into three lanes in each direction.
Besides inoperable vehicles, the Motorway Patrol crews removed almost 1,500 dangerous objects from the road during the first half of the year. In most cases, these obstacles were the result of accidents or items that had not been properly secured and had fallen off trucks or passenger vehicles. “We would like to use this opportunity to appeal to drivers to always ensure they properly secure any items they are transporting, as these might cause serious traffic accidents if they fall onto the road,” added Mr. Droppa.
