This year’s summer maintenance of the most important road infrastructure in Slovakia is roughly halfway through. Since April, NDS employees have been working intensively to ensure maximum safety and provide comfort for drivers using the motorways and expressways managed by NDS.
“Passability of the vital road arteries in Slovakia requires daily efforts of around 1,200 NDS employees who clean the motorways, trim the greenery or clean the motorway drainage channels,” said Rastislav Droppa, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and Operations Section Director at NDS.
The summer maintenance period of 2026 started in April. By the end of June, maintenance works have already been completed on over 1,400 hectares of roadside greenery. Just to compare, this area is larger than the Karlova Ves district of Bratislava. Around 1,300 hectares were maintained by machines and 100 hectares were mowed manually due to complicated terrain.
During the first three months of the summer maintenance period, over 400 km of drainage channels were cleaned – these gutters and ditches enable the smooth drainage of rainwater from the road surface.
“From April to June 2026, over 4,000 road signposts were repaired – these help the drivers to drive in lower visibility, such as at night or during rain,” concluded Rastislav Droppa.
