NDS takes over the management of the toll collection system

The toll collection system in Slovakia will be managed by Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, a.s. in just a few months. The overall toll collection mechanism will not change, however, the toll payers using the services of the current Slovak toll service provider, the company Skytoll, will need to re-register. Toll payers using the services of European toll service providers will not be affected by this change.

As of 1 January 2027, the toll collection administration will be transferred to Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, a.s. (National Motorway Company, hereafter referred to as “NDS”). The company Skytoll will no longer provide comprehensive electronic toll collection services in Slovakia as of next year. This will level the playing field for all toll service providers in Slovakia and significantly reduce NDS's toll collection costs.

“Herewith, the toll collection costs will reach the level of neighbouring countries. It will be a logistically challenging transition and it is essential for the carriers affected by this change to closely follow the information provided,” noted Peter Braška, a Member of the Board of Directors and Charging and IT Section Director at NDS.

Carriers that are currently using the services of Skytoll will need to re-register in due time, return their on-board unit and collect a new on-board unit from the new Slovak toll service provider (company Czechtoll) or from one of the European toll service providers (Eurowag, Telepass or Toll4Europe).

The new Slovak toll service provider will no longer manage the system. It will be entirely taken over and owned by Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, a.s. as the Toll Collection Administrator. For all toll service providers in Slovakia, the same conditions will be applied.

Carriers that are using the services of one of the European toll service providers (EETS) will not be affected by this transition and do not need to take any action. Toll collection and the method of payment remain unchanged.

To ensure a smooth transition to the new toll collection system, toll payers are advised to regularly check the website www.mytobezhranic.sk/novy-mytny-system/, where relevant information will be added gradually.

The re-registration of vehicles in the new electronic tolling system will be available from 1 December 2026 to enable carriers using the services of Skytoll to prepare in advance and avoid having to wait for a new on-board unit in the first days of January 2027. Carriers will have the possibility to decide whether they want to register with the new Slovak toll service provider (Czechtoll) or one of the EETS providers.

However, the new on-board units from the Slovak toll service provider (Czechtoll) will not be operational until Friday, 1 January 2027. Until that date, toll payers using the services of Skytoll have to use the on-board units of the current tolling system when driving in Slovakia.
