One year in: 1-day vignette proves popular not only among foreign drivers

One year ago, on 1 August 2024, the 1-day electronic motorway vignette was introduced in Slovakia. It brought more flexibility and easier planning for drivers using the Slovak motorways. Popular not only among foreign drivers as one of the most practical holiday options, it is also favoured by Slovak drivers. During the first year of its existence, around 1,7 million 1-day vignettes were sold, with 61 % purchased by foreign drivers and 39 % by Slovaks.

The majority of vignettes (62 %) were purchased online via the webpage www.eznamka.sk. Among foreign drivers, the most vignettes were purchased by Czech drivers (14 %), followed by German (10 %), Polish (9 %), Austrian (7 %), and Hungarian drivers (5 %). From the vignettes purchased in-store, the largest number of 1-day vignettes was sold at the Point of Sale located at the Brodské – Břeclav motorway border crossing (more than 70 thousand vignettes).

The shortest motorway vignette is valid on the day specified by the customer until midnight of the given calendar day, and costs 8.10 EUR. Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, a.s. (National Motorway Company, hereafter referred to as “NDS”) advises drivers to use only the official sales channels of NDS when purchasing the motorway vignette. Vignettes can easily be purchased online at www.eznamka.sk or via the eZnamka mobile app. Drivers can also purchase the motorway vignette at petrol stations or Information and Sales Points located at motorway border crossings.
